A trans‐African migrant shows repeatable route choice in males and repeatable timing in females

چکیده

Migrant bird populations often show substantial variation in route choice and timing. Determining whether this population-level is driven by between-individual differences and/or flexibility within individuals key to identifying drivers of migration patterns. ‘Repeatability' (R, the proportion attributable variation) has become a central metric for relative consistency individual behaviour. Individual repeatability migratory timing reported vary between seasonal regional contexts may also differ demographic groups (e.g. sexes), but interpreting requires careful consideration underlying changes between- within-individual variation. We GPS-tracked repeat migrations eight male five female Eleonora's falcons Falco eleonorae quantified magnitude within- their routes at 100 km intervals all across Africa. did both sexes, then separately males females. found greater spring routes, albeit with fluctuations seasons. The greatest occurred during desert-crossing, coincided high variation, thus only low choice. Route instead peaked (R = 0.6–0.8) through Horn Africa spring, rainforest-crossing autumn. Variation was stable regions, generally higher spring. Sex-specific analyses suggest exhibit repeatability, while females stronger contrasts repeatability. Such sex were unexpected, overall, timings appear where environmental annual cycle constraints are weaker. especially fidelity stop-over sites, or barrier-crossing preferences. routines be acquired early-life exploration-refinement.

Reconciling Repeatable Timing with Pipelining and Memory Hierarchy

This paper argues that repeatable timing is more important and more achievable than predictable timing. It describes microarchitecture approaches to pipelining and memory hierarchy that deliver repeatable timing and promise comparable or better performance compared to established techniques. Specifically, threads are interleaved in a pipeline to eliminate pipeline hazards, and a hierarchical me...

repeatable experiments in software engineering

Welcome to the special issue of Empirical Software Engineering on repeatable experiments in software engineering. Earlier and shorter versions of the papers presented here first appeared at the PROMISE 2007 workshop in Minneapolis. The PROMISE project has been running for 4 years now and aims to create large libraries of repeatable experiments in software engineering. PROMISE is somewhat differ...

Repeatable Experiments with LabWiki

The ability to repeat the experiments from a research study and obtain similar results is a corner stone in experiment-based scientific discovery. This essential feature has been often ignored by the distributed computing and networking community. There are many reasons for that, such as the complexity of provisioning, configuring, and orchestrating the resources used by experiments, their mult...

Rejection of Repeatable and Non-repeatable Disturbances for Disk Drive Actuators

This paper presents an application of two-parameter robust repetitive control (TPRRC) in disk drive servo control, where the repeatable rrmout (RRO) and non-repeatable runout (NRRO) are rejected simultaneously. The repeatable disturbances are rejected by tbe internal model structure of TPRRC, while the nonrepeatable disturbances are attenuated by the robust performance specification. The design...

TESTREX: a Testbed for Repeatable Exploits

Web applications are the target of many known exploits and also a fertile ground for the discovery of security vulnerabilities. Those applications may be exploitable not only because of the vulnerabilities in their source code, but also because of the environments on which they are deployed and run. Execution environments usually consist of application servers, databases and other supporting ap...
